Project Description
We seek a student with a strong background in algebra and or combinatorics to study for a Ph.D in the representation theory of the symmetric group and related algebras under the supervision of Prof. Mark Wildon. Likely research topics include Foulkes’ Conjecture on permutation representations of the symmetric group, plethysms of symmetric functions and Schur functors, and the decomposition matrix problem for symmetric groups
