Student FAQ
What is DiscoverPhDs?
DiscoverPhDs is an online database of STEM PhD opportunities available in the UK for prospective students.
We know that applying for a PhD can be a difficult process, but having open PhD opportunities in one place should make the process of finding the right project for you easier. We also provide you with guidance and advice from those who have undertaken PhDs to aid you through the process.
How do I apply to a PhD on your site?
You apply directly to the university hosting the PhD. To do this, click the “Apply Now” button and you will either be:
- Taken directly to the universities PhD application page, or
- Prompted to email the relevant university department (usually the project supervisor) to express an interest in applying. Some supervisors prefer that you email them first before officially applying.
What happens after I apply for a PhD?
Each university has their own application process. Therefore, once the university receives your application or email, they will guide you through their next steps.
Is DiscoverPhDs free to use?
Yes. There is no charge to you for using our service.
How does DiscoverPhDs make money?
Universities pay to advertise their PhDs on DiscoverPhDs.com
What is a 'featured' PhD?
Universities may choose to make their PhD programmes ‘featured’ on our site. Featured PhDs will be visible on our homepage and across different pages of our site and at the top of the browsing list for extra visibility.
