Project Description
The project is aimed at taking the advantage of the enormous potentials of the fast developing computing technology and numerical methods to develop new thermal hydraulics solutions and tools for nuclear reactor designs.
This project is aimed at developing robust and high fidelity computational models to support advanced (generation IV) nuclear reactor designs by bridging gap between the large trillion-node simulations and in-depth fundamental physics studies. The specific objectives are:
Develop a computer model for a multi-sub-channel domain using an advanced CFD approach, and use it to study the instability, mixing and cross flow phenomena encountered in the new reactor design
Better understanding and modelling mixed and natural convection
Develop a ‘robust engineering turbulence model’ for the simulation of the specific reactor design – with a specific purpose of improving the modelling of mixed convection and transient flow for a domain of mixed fine/coarse mesh.
